Top 5 Feel Good Albums

Saturday, February 11, 2017, by Kashay Webb

There are so many concerning things happening in the world right now and the semester is beginning to pick up for me. Below are five of my favorite albums I listen to when I want to calm my mind. This is not at all an extensive list of my favorite albums. I'm a huge music lover, so I don't think I would ever be able to choose a short list of my faves. I chose the albums that without a doubt can can change my mood from stressed to mellow in an instant. Enjoy!

Album: The Diary of Alicia Keys
Artist: Alicia Keys
Favorite Song: Diary

First up: The Diary of Alicia Keys. Who could ever get enough of Alicia Key's voice and her piano? I listen to this album mostly when I'm getting ready in the morning. Alicia's soulful voice and the  background music to match wakes me up and puts me in a great head space to start my day.

Album: Baduizm
Artist: Erykah Badu
Favorite Song: On and On

I have listened to this classic album more times than I care to admit. I usually listen to it when I am doing homework because Erykah Badu's voice is soothing to me. Interestingly enough, this album came out today during my birth year: February 11, 1997. My middle name is also Erykah. Weird right?

Album: Souled Out
Artist: Jhené Aiko
Favorite Song: W.A.Y.S.

This is the album I listen to when walking around campus or before bed. Although it is hard for me to choose a favorite song, W.A.Y.S. is my number one favorite song. Out of the albums I have presented, this album calms my mind the most.

Album: Diary of a Mad Band
Artist: Jodeci
Favorite Song: Cry For You

There is nothing like a great male R&B group from time to time. My favorites are Jodeci, New Edition, Boyz II Men, and Dru Hill. I like to listen to this album while I am cleaning, styling my hair, or doing other small tasks. This album fills in the silence perfectly and easily enhances my mood.

Album: A Seat at the Table
Artist: Solange Knowles
Favorite Song: Weary

This album could not have come out at a more perfect time. When it came out in September, I was looking for a new "feel good" album to add to my day. It was difficult for me to choose a favorite song from this album because I love them all so much. I listen to this album whenever I need inspiration; it never fails to to wake up the artist inside me.

Music is such an important part of my day, so it's nice to have "go to" albums when I need an escape. I hope you give these albums a try and enjoy them like I do :)
